That claimes an awful lot so I was expecting an awful lot, But…I do not feel that it delivered much. That said, the bottle is VERY girlish, and pretty, and is probably why it sells so well. Kudos to whoever designed the bottle! :o)

1.) Yes, it was hydrating and very moisturizing. It went on well and was not oily, or sticky. *This is a good thing*

2.)It smelled just ‘alright’ I found it to smell like a sweet cocoa butter. It was a light tan color when applied.

3.) Bottle says that there is caffeine and green tea stimulators in it, so I was  expecting a bit of a boost, given it was 6pm when I used it. But nope, didn’t feel any more energetic then I normally do.

4.)Bottle says it has a light bronzer in it.
It must be a VERY light bronzer because as you know, with most bronzer lotions, you need to wash your hands right away. My salon was out of wipes so I did not wash my hands right away, and an hour later I had no brown palms. My hands were very soft and moiturized though.  There was only a slight after tan odor.

5.) Even after waiting a full 24 hours, which is generally suggested, I did not see a difference in my color what- so- ever. Which is the whole point of using a lotion.

****All in all, I would probably not purchase this lotion myself. If I need a good moisturizer, I would stick with my coconut oil, or straight up cocoa butter.

This product retails for $64 in salons or $26.45 online.

Tanning Beds

For years people have been told tanning is bad for you….Stay out of the sun! Wear sun screen 24/7…. There are so many rumors and myths that have been spread around about tanning, in any form. My question is, why did people in bible days live so long and they were out in the sun almost non stop? Regardless….

You are in charge of your own health and it is up to you to decide which is best for you. If you burn very easily and skin cancer runs in your family, then you probably do not want to start tanning, or if you do tan, limit it to only several times a month.

What is tanning?

Tanning is the process of darkening the skin through the use of ultraviolet (UV) light which can be obtained from tanning beds or naturally outdoors. For whatever reason, people exclude outdoor tanning from the fear they have of the process. The truth of the matter is that tanning can be dangerous if you overdo it.

The absorption of UV light is actually moderately good for you. It provides and promotes extra vitamin D production which is great. Problems arise when you start tanning too much. Excessive exposure to UV light makes you more prone to certain health risks such as skin cancer. But, if you follow the general guidelines of safe tanning you don’t have much to worry about.

For the next few days I will be reviewing several indoor tanning lotions that I was given to try for free. I will be 100% honest in my reviews. As with any beauty product, each person may have different results. I will be posting about MY results..Yours may be different.

:o) I like the stand up tanning beds that my salon offers the best. They only run for 8 minutes.

REVIEW: Energy Boost + Sally Hansen Spray-On Shower-Off

  • Posted on May 2, 2011 at 7:19 pm

I have two reviews to put up. One good, one bad one. I’ll start with the good one.

Swansons Energy Boost   And for only five dollars I’m so glad I added it to my vitamin order last month. It started working about 20mins after I took on the first day. It is time released, so it is not something you would want to take at noon, unless you want to be up till 2am.  I bought it for the days that my husband insists that I wake up early with him..

It is nothing like all the energy pills and drinks that are on the market. It is very natural and only has 75mg of caffeine in it, along with bee pollen, green tea, cacao, B-12 and ginseng. Today is a perfect example of how great this stuff really is….I had five hours of sleep last night! I woke  up and took one of these and have been going strong since. :o)

The next product that I tried  was Sally Hansens new Spray-On Shower-Off Hair  remover foam. I REALLY wanted to love this stuff! I wanted to be optimistic so badly, that I didn’t even Google any reviews for it.  I went straight out to CVS, and dropped 7 dollars for it on a whim.  *G*  The bottle is quite small, only 6oz, which means you will get about 2 shaves, at most from it. The directions say to spray your legs in the shower, wait 3 minutes and shower, letting the water rinse all the little hairs away. Nice concept, if it actually worked.

The bottle says it’s for coarse hard to remove hair, which I actually don’t have. But figured if it works well for thick coarse hair then it certainly will remove my thin hair. WRONG! I did the patch test first,  just like the bottle said. After 3 mins nothing, so I did a new patch and waited 5mins, still nothing..In small lettering it says that the maximum amount of time is 10mins… So I went full force and sprayed both legs, waiting the full 10mins. After about 7mins, my legs started getting warm. After 10mins they were burning, so I Immediately  turned on the shower to rinse them and noticed they were all red and rashy. I might have been able to grin and bare it, if   it removed any hair whatsoever, but it didn’t! Not even one tiny hair came off. I have no idea why. I have used Nair in the past and after 3mins, the hair  rinsed right off like magic. The only thing I never liked about Nair was the ASO.

So after flushing 7 bucks down the drain— Literetly. I will not be buying this again. :o(

I went ahead and checked online for reviews after using it, and they sell it for a little over a dollar a bottle on Amazon. Figures! DH always tells me to use Amazon and I never do.  It got terrible reviews on Amazon, as well as on other peoples blogs. Most people say it did not work, and it burned them too!

Oh, and there is a funny warning on the bottle that says, Not to be used on your head. Does this mean someone actually tried? lol

Per Request: Homemade Toothpaste & Mouthwash Recipe

I thought I had this recipe here, but must have been on my old blog, so here goes again.

 Homemade Toothpaste

1.) 1 cup of organic coconut oil ( Swanson.com –cheapest) OR, Whole Foods)
2.) 1/2 cup of baking soda (non alum)
3.) Several packs of Stevia in the raw for sweetener(Food Lion OR, Walmart)
4.) Several drops of Peppermint oil-extract if you can’t find oil(They have both at Walmart)You could also use pure vanilla extract if you don’t like peppermint.
5.)A pinch of sea salt(Preservative)

6.) 2 capfuls of sunflower oil(Optional)
Mix together in a bowl till you have a nice consistency. In the warmer months the coconut oil will soften, and the toothpaste will be more of a paste. In the colder months it will be a more of a firmer consistency. Just play around with it and make it your own. If you want it sweeter, add more stevia, more flavorful, add more mint.

I store ours in a plastic freezer canning jar, as shown below:

You can also do several flavors and store them in little dollar store containers such as these:

I have  a friend who uses a clean empty soap dispenser for the kids toothpaste.

Homemade Mouthwash

1 liter of Distilled water
2 capfuls of peroxide
15 drops of Tea-tree Oil
15 drops of Peppermint Oil
This is much better then Listerine because there is no aspartame, saccharin or artificial junk in it. And for those that don’t know, it use to be marketed as a floor cleaner! Nothing I’d particularly want to put in my mouth!
**You can also  make homemade dental floss, but it is rather time consuming. Your coating a fine string with beeswax that has been soaked in mint oil. Your keeping all your old floss containers and prying them open, and rewinding the new healthy dental floss in them.

Things I’ve learned since Tanning

  • Posted on March 27, 2011 at 9:37 pm

1.) You can not get locked in a tanning bed like all those scary movies have you to believe. They DO NOT lock! They do not close tightly around you either. You can easily move around, and switch from your back to your stomach while underneath them. There is plenty of wiggle room.
2.) Certain medications and herbs will make you extremely light sensitive, and you should not be tanning or in natural sunshine for extended periods, if you are on certain meds/herbs. This said, many people take a 500mg dose of B3/Niacin about 30mins prior to tanning. It works as a tingle lotion.

3.) The term (Hot New Bulbs!) That you see on many tanning salon windows..is a marketing ploy, and how hot the lights get when your tanning have nothing to do with the actual tanning process. In fact, they shouldn’t be getting that hot at all. There is no reason to come out all sticky and sweaty, unless the bed has been running non stop. The salon that I tan at, has eight different beds to choose from, and one stand up bed. They are all cleaned and sanitized after each and every use. I watch them do this all the time, and actually checked out the salons cleaning supplies, just to make sure. With the stand up booth your body never touches anything, so you do not need to worry about germs. They do steam the floor where you stand after each use though. The stand up beds are probably the best choice for the most even tan. You can raise your arms and hold onto straps, stand straight or stand with your legs apart. Very versatile!
4.) We all fall under one of the three skin types.
Type 3′s look more “bronze” when they have a tan.  Type 2′s look more “pinkish”(not red/burned) when they tan, and Type 4′s look a more “brownish” when they get a tan.~The tanning salon told me that I’m a type 3.
5.) There are tanning beds that don’t give out hardly any harmful rays. The bulbs on these beds, which are called HP beds, are made of Quartz bulbs, not fluorescent, which have a solar ratio of 2% UVB and 98% UVA. UVB rays promote aging and skin cancer.
6.) HP(High Pressure beds) run for $40-$80 grand each, or $30 dollars a session at the salon, but are the best for your skin, and you only need to go for 3 days in a row to get a fast dark tan, and then only twice a month to maintain it.These beds run for 30 minutes max, which you can stay for, and not get burned at all. Very Cool! The only place that I know of that uses these extra $$ beds is called, Palm Beach Tanning. They are a franchise. HP beds continue to tan you for 24-48 hours AFTER you tan compared to a LP bed which only tans you for 8-10 hours after you’ve tanned.
7.) With LP (Low Pressure beds), you need to start off very slow. You need to go every other day for several weeks to build a base tan. Just as you would in the sun. You need to start off laying in the bed for only 3mins for the first couple days, then 5mins,7mins,9mins,then 11-12 mins which will be the max. amount of time. If you go for the full time, which is 12mins.But they do have older LP beds that run for 20mins, but they are not as nice. These sessions are only $3-6 dollars each, or $40 a month, Or $300 a year. I don’t know why anyone would want to go the whole year though, unless you lived in Alaska maybe. LP beds have more UVA then UVB rays.
8.) Yes, there could be hidden cams in the tanning rooms! I mean, there could be… I am pretty smart at where they would be, and what they look like though. I had a lady tell me that she was tanning at a salon once, that only had one bed and there was a tinted window in there. She always wondered if anyone was out-right watching her. I would say so!
I don’t think I would tan somewhere that had windows in the rooms. If you are that self-consious about hidden cams though, don’t go tanning! Honestly, if you lay out at the pool or beach, your going to get looked at most likely, so….

Not that I’m saying I wouldn’t be totally creeped out if a stranger was watching me! I would!

9.) UVB is more efficient at signaling melanocytes in your skin to begin producing more melanin.
UVA is more efficient at oxidizing the melanin your skin has already produced, turning it brown.

UVB beds will only get to the top layers of skin.  UVA beds penetrate much deeper. UVB also provides your skin with essential vitamin D! This is alwasy a good thing. Have you ever noticed that when you are outside in the sun for a while, you just feel better when you go back inside, this is due to the vitamin D3 rush! You should get at least 20mins of Sunshine each day to get a beneficial amount of vitamin D3 so you won’t get sick. In the winter time I take 8000IU’s of Vitamin D3 every couple days.  UVB beds are also used to treat conditions like psoriasis and eczema. They have come a long way since the 70′s!
