New Fabric, New Thread-trouble shooting

  • March 8, 2010 2:56 pm

I just got all this awesome new fabric, along with lots of new threads. I hit a great sale at Joannes, and just went with it.

The tye-dyish gold fabric came all the way from India though. It is silk! The other fabrics are Linen, all except the black one, which is rayon.

All fabrics are 3 yards each, except the one from India, which was someones Saree at one time. I am guessing it is about 6 feet from looking at it. It is so vibrant!

Just about all the fabrics have beautiful embroidery in them, some with tiny sparkles.

As for the thread, I have been having some issues. You see, 3 of them are 100% rayon. The brand name is Sulky. They are kind of silky looking. They were very expensive too. The cashier talked me into it. You know, peer preasure and all! lol

My problem is, it is impossible to sew with. I have no idea why, but it bunches up under the hemline. If any expert sewers are reading this, and know why this is happening, Please..don’t leave me in the dark. Comment below and let me know the reason. It is so pretty looking! My first thought was maybe the tention needs to be adjusted when using this kind of thread, or maybe I need a different foot or needle? IDK! I sure hope someone else does.

SO without further ado–this is my goodies.

The destruction of a bathroom

  • March 6, 2010 7:09 pm

We decided to  start some  home improvement, to increase the property value. We really want to turn this land into a homestead. We just bought 12 fruit trees this weekend. They are already grafted, and are 2 years old. They will be giving fruit next Fall! I can not wait!

We got some  Peaches, a couple different kinds of Apples ,Nectarines,Pears, Bing Cherries and a few blackberry bushes. Hubby wanted to get some grapes, but I need my clothes line! Ha!

Moving right along. We decided to tackle the kids bathroom first. We  live in a double wide, and are wanting to transform this humble home into a house. This means, tearing down the walls and putting real walls up. Getting rid of the flooring and placing hardwood floors.  Tweaking the pluming to accommodate some industrial toilets and shower stalls.

The kitchen is going to be the biggest project, because all the counters and  cabinets need to be removed. The stove and fride need to be replaced with propane ones too.

For now, we  are tackling the kids bathroom. We removed the sink and walls thus far. Tomorrow the toilet and flooring is coming  out.

I did have a major boo-boo in the process though. A piece of plywood-,had no idea how sharp it was..Well, it went into the top of my hand and punctured a vein. It did not start hurting until I pulled it out. To my surprise, blood was squirting everywhere! It really freaked me out as I saw a piece of the vein triveling upwards. My first mellow dramatic thought was, I am going to bleed to death!!

But nah, I knew the hospital was the last place I wanted to go.

I put pressure on it until the bleeding stopped some what, then iced it till it went numb. Then on went the Arnica. I also took some of my homemade elixir for the pain. It is still all black and blue though. Ugh! This too shall pass..

The Goodwill Thrift Store

OK, so most of you already know that I am a bargain hunter. Even if I had a million dollars, I would still shop second hand for the good deals. I see it as a treasure hunt. I would much rather spend 30 minutes at a yard sale or thrift store, and find a good quality dress or shirt for two dollars, then go to Walmart and spend $15.00 dollars on something that is going to fall apart and fade after a couple dozen washes.

What is bothering me about the Goodwill imparticular though, is that it is becoming very commercialized!!!! Ugh! I mean, they are having their own fashion shows now, AND-advertising them on TV. They are generally held at Hotels, from what the commercials say. All you need to do, is bring your credit card and it will all be placed on your tab. Oh, it is all on auction of course.

AUCTION????? What are trying to turn into eBay now?

I do not know why it surprised me, when today I walked into the Goodwill and my eyes immediately fell on this cart that had some upscale handbags and shoes in it, as well as a very old looking accordion. As I went to touch one of the bags, the sales lady says, “Oh, sorry mam, those are going in the auction shelves right over there”. My eyes followed her finger to some enclosed shelves on the outer walls. She then tells me that it is a silent auction, and if I want to go to the register and place a bid on any of the items, they will be notifying the winner in thirty days. I could also leave my number, and if I got outbid, they would notify me, and I could up the bid by coming in, and signing my  auction sheet!!!

This is a disgrace! I mean, what ever happen to helping the needy?

Not that I am needy per-say, but you get the point.

So there you have it folks..The new Elite shopping bonanza… of the coming ages… Silent auctions to boot!! Just go right ahead, whip out that credit card, (which by the way, we have not had any credit cards for 5 years now.)

YOU MAY JUST BE THE LUCKY WINNER!!!!  As for me, I don’t think so…..

My Grocery Shopping order

  • February 27, 2010 7:40 pm

I have had several people ask me what a average trip to the market looks like for us.  We do a big order only twice a month. For those that are curious, It came to $150.00 this time. Not bad for the 7 of us, and 2 weeks worth. Keep in mind though; I did not have to buy dry beans, rice or eggs. These things we always have on hand.

My order from the Raw Food World

  • February 23, 2010 4:01 pm

As most of my facebook friends know. I am on a journey to good health. I never thought in a million years that I would be able to naturally heal certain things about myself through eating the right kinds of foods.

PRAISE GOD!

I just recently placed an order from the Raw Food World. Here is what I recieved last week.

I have alwasy wanted to do a complete colon cleanse. There is just so much information on the web, that it always turned me off. After many nights reading though, I learned that if I was going to go out of my comfort box and actually do a colon cleanse, then I wanted to make sure I got the best. Finding one that did not have psyillium in it.

This is the one that I got. I am on day four today. Yes, it does everything that it says it does.

Keep in mind that I am only eating clean foods while on it. 2-3 green smoothies a day. A few pieces of fruit, a tossed salad with olive oil, and some flax crackers. Oh, and some raw soups.

I also have been reading up on skin brushing. This is the skin brush that I got.

I also picked up an Enema bag. This simply power washes your colon, and returns it to a childhood state. Years of eating unhealthy prosessed foods wrecks haven on your colon, which leads to all sorts of cancers. This is why these measures need to be taken.

I picked up some Chia seeds.  I bet everyone can picture that once popular Chia pet commercial…Cha-cha-cha CHIA……lol

I have always wanted to try Bennonite Green Clay. It is Amazing stuff. I have used it 4x so far. I had some unslightly black heads and acne, it has all disappeared!

I bought some food grade Hydrogen Peroxide. I use this for my teeth and to wash some veggies.

Lastly, I bought some RAW water.

Nah, I am just kidding. I would never give up my distilled water!! lol

Ok, so that is the jist of it. I am doing real well. I feel like I have more energy and stamina then all the previous weeks. I feel like I have  a new mental clarity. I know it is because of the way I have been eating because in the past when I fell off the wagon and ate something, not really all that bad–maybe some wheat pasta, or basmati rice, or even a bowl of pintos. I feel a fullness and fogginess. Sort of like a ongoing PMS.

On another note. Last month we bought a Samson Juicer and a Blend-Tec blender. These are the two main appliances that a raw foodist needs. I am hoping to get some ceramic knives and veggie peelers soon.

Everything I am keeping in my purse!

SO I first dumped everything out of my bag and took a picture. Then I placed everything nicely to give you better view at what I carry each day. Lastly, I cleaned it all out and took away the stuff that did not belong in my purse.
As you can see that while I like my house nice and tidy, it stops there. I really do not care how my purse looks! lol Weird, I know.

So let me list each item for you. :o )

I have my address book,a spiral note pad & pen, my Vera Bradley journal, a coffee menu of my favorite coffee place .
A homemade sanitary napkin (the cloth pink thing),a sewing repair kit (the plastic blue thing), a blue bandaid,Paris Hilton parfume ,  Burts Bees chap stick, a tiny clear container of raw coconut oil, a shimmery lip gloss, a covergirl powder compact(trying to use it up, I use a different kind now that is more natural),a multi-color lip palette (Ditto). Some Raw sugar & Purvia, A nail filer,  pack of Big Red gum, a little plastic vile that I got in the mail to test well water, we do not have a well though and I thought the container was too cute to throw out. lol My Vera Bradley Wallet on a string. (hubby just bought it for me this past weekend) A black hair scrunchi, a rubber glove, Lysol,a comb & brush, a disposable camera, a rainbow heart that my daughter made me for my purse, a watch that needs a new battery(I keep forgetting every time we are out.) some paper napkins, mints, keys, fabric tape,2 packs of crayons,a jack, a pen,a pencil, the animals rabies tags,a blue collar with bell, a pink straw and some dental floss.

Looking forward to this weekend!

  • February 4, 2010 7:55 pm

I am so much looking forward to this weekend.  It is suppose to sleet and snow a bit though. I really wish winter would end for good. A year ago I would have loved all this weather, but now nowadays. I really dislike the cold and snow.

Saturday morning Dh is taking us out to breakfast and then to a new store that opened in Greensboro to do some shopping. Saturday evening we are going to the  Christian Winter-Jam concert. I did not get to go last time, and can hardly wait to have a fun night out!!!

Sunday is the super bowl and we are having a Super Bowl party & also going to celebrate my youngest daughters 3rd birthday!! I Love her so much!

Hope everyone has a GREAT weekend!

Stay Safe!!!
